Classroom Strategies for Beginners and Refugee Pupils -Primary- Personal Use – 1 year licence .
This video is for personal professional development use only and provides practical strategies for supporting beginners and refugee pupils who are early-stage learners of English as an Additional Language (EAL).
The course focuses on developing “survival English” — the essential language pupils need to understand routines, communicate their needs, interact with teachers and peers, and begin participating confidently in classroom life. It goes beyond everyday communication to explore how teachers can help pupils access the full curriculum while they are still developing proficiency in English.
We explore the key oral language, literacy and classroom interaction skills that beginners and early-stage EAL learners need to participate meaningfully in lessons. The course considers how teachers can provide appropriate language support without reducing the cognitive challenge of the curriculum.
Who is the course for?
This course is suitable for teachers, teaching assistants and other support staff working with pupils from Foundation Stage through to Key Stage 2, particularly those supporting newly arrived pupils , refugees and learners who are at the early stages of learning English
