Hounslow Language Service is an experienced training and consultancy team specialising in developing the language of English learners in the classroom (EAL/ESL). We support schools with all aspects of EAL and provide high quality training and consultancy to help raise the achievement of your EAL pupils.
We offer high quality teacher training for schools and universities in EAL, academic English language teaching and raising ethnic minority achievement. Our strength is providing engaging and interactive sessions which include up-to-date professional information, useful exemplars and a wealth of practical classroom strategies.
Hounslow Language Service includes a Bilingual Team speaking over 20 languages who are available for Mother Tongue Assessment, Bilingual Interpretation, Mother Tongue GCSE, AS level, A level mock and oral exams. Karen.kedem@ealhls.org.uk
HLS have a long history and a wide range of practical experience of supporting schools in their work with Refugees and Asylum-seekers.
Therefore, we are ensuring that the specific language and learning needs of these pupils are included in all our courses. Thes strategies are particularly important in our ‘Beginners’ and ‘Assessment’ courses.
This term, we are also offering a half day webinar to assist schools in welcoming and supporting refugee pupils.

A very useful resource is our Assessment framework that provides clear descriptors to determine the level of English proficiency of EAL pupils. Accompanying this is an easy to use target setting phrase bank which enables teachers to set clear targets for next steps to ensure progress.

EAL in the Mainstream Classroom
The ‘EAL in the Mainstream Classroom’ project aimed to build subject teachers’ expertise in supporting EAL pupils and to improve their attainment.
EAL TRAINING AT ASHFORD PRIMARY
It was a great start to the new half term working with enthusiastic staff at Ashford Primary on ‘Rapid Progress in Vocabulary Development to Raise the Attainment of EAL pupils’. The school has a changing demography and is receiving more EAL children.

We were pleased to be able to continue our relationship with The Adviser for Vulnerable Pupils in the Vale of Glamorgan in Wales.
EAST OXFORD PRIMARY HOST EAL COURSE
Following a very successful course with Li Yen French at East Oxford Primary School in the spring. the Head teacher, Russell Kaye, is hosting a similar course for other Oxford schools on June 30th.
