Following the very successful Conference in Madrid in February this year, HLS were invited to deliver our 3 day ‘Developing Academic Literacy across the Curriculum’ Course at Kings College Soto.
Delegates came from across Spain including Alicante and Madrid and represented a range of subject teachers and teachers from across all phases of education. The course programme, delivered by Andy Harvey, aimed at providing professional support for front line classroom teachers so that they can provide the best teaching and learning for EAL pupils across all subject areas. At the core of this approach is a focus on developing academic language across the curriculum and it is especially relevant for helping students meet higher language demands.
The teachers on the course enjoyed a range of practical activities that can be put into use immediately in the classroom. They commented on the interactive approach and excellent day to day examples which will enable them to support mainstream teachers. They valued the opportunity to include the language strategies in their planning which was applicable across a wide range of ages and subject areas.
We look forward to continuing our work with the Kings College group which extends across Europe.
