This term has seen the development of our training in Jersey, linking with the EAL Head of Service and the EAL Team in Jersey. The partnership has launched with a series of 10 webinars during this term. The sessions were wide-ranging with topics from TA training on ‘Key Strategies to support EAL Learners’ to ‘Developing Grammatical Accuracy in the Writing of EAL Learners’.
Participants on the TA training commented that the webinar was helpful and easy to understand and provided “lots of examples to put into practice straight away.” The ‘Critical Reading’ and ‘Grammatical Accuracy’ sessions provided “Great activities that are quick and easy to put together’. Every teachers’ dream package! The Jersey EAL Adviser is now encouraging more schools to take advantage of these upbeat and useful sessions.
A session on ‘Welcoming Bilingual Learners to Early Years settings’ gave participants the valuable opportunity to work alongside colleagues to discuss ideas. An enthusiastic early years’ teacher fed back that she will be completing the HLS suggested audit in order to develop new strategies. As with most participants, she will also be feeding back training ideas to her nursery team.
